Manhattan, New York
Financial District
The Financial District occupies the southern tip of Manhattan around Wall Street and the World Trade Center. It is the city's oldest commercial core and now also one of its fastest-growing residential districts.
Local Character & History
Colonial street patterns survive around Stone Street and Fraunces Tavern, while the World Trade Center site, the Oculus and waterfront esplanades define the modern district. Weekday office crowds give way to residents in the evening.
Restaurants & Shopping
Stone Street's restaurant row, the Oculus food hall and the Seaport's dining rooms serve office workers and residents, with everything from steakhouse lunches to waterfront seafood.
Housing
Converted office buildings, new condominium towers and Battery Park City rentals dominate. Prices are high and the stock is largely newer construction.
Parks & Recreation
Battery Park, the Battery Park City esplanade, City Hall Park and the Brooklyn Bridge Park views across the river provide open space.
Transportation
Nearly every subway line converges downtown, with the Staten Island Ferry at Whitehall Terminal, PATH at the World Trade Center and ferries from Pier 11.
